Properly maintain gutters

For long-lasting enjoyment of the Marley plastic roof gutter

With regular cleaning, you prevent blockages from forming in the gutter and downpipe and overflowing water from damaging the facade. If the standing water freezes in winter, the downspout could break or icicles could form due to overflowing water.

To ensure that you enjoy your Marley plastic gutter for as long as possible, we recommend cleaning it at least once a year - ideally after leaves have fallen and before the frost season.

If there are many trees near the gutter, a second cleaning in the spring is a good idea to rid the gutter of leaves and debris.

Cleaning the gutter and downspout

  1. Remove leaves and coarse debris from the gutter. Use an old hand broom, for example, to sweep out the gutter. Make sure that leaves and dirt do not fall into the downpipe. You can, for example, place an old sieve over the downpipe.

  2. Then rinse the gutter with water to remove small debris.

Cleaning is easy with a gutter guard. Here, leaves and coarse dirt already collect before they get into the gutter and are blown down by the wind. This is particularly useful if a lot of leaves collect in the gutter due to the location.

Nevertheless, we recommend cleaning the gutter protection at least once a year and flushing the gutter and downpipe afterwards.

If you have installed a cleaning pipe in the gutter system, use a mirror to check whether the downpipe is clear to the top. If there are accumulations of leaves there, clean the downspout with a spindle.

  • Carefully insert the spindle into the downpipe from above until the dirt in the downpipe comes loose.

  • Flush the downspout with sufficient water to flush the dirt out of the downspout.

Small leaks at the connection trays

Staked gutter: If small leaks occur at the connecting trays, remove the connecting tray, clean it, and reinstall it. In most cases, this will already fix the problem.

Bonded gutters: In the case of bonded joints, the connecting shells cannot be easily dismantled. In this case, it is necessary to saw out the connecting shell and install the joint with a new piece of gutter and new connecting shells.

Very important:

Safety first! It is best to work in pairs so that one can hold the ladder and indicate the equipment!
